Our Story

In 1997, the founder of SM World Enterprises, Svetlana Ijovskaia, a student of John Jay college of Criminal Justice in New York City, USA and a graduate from Perm State University School of Law in Russia, was invited through a college career awareness program for international students to participate in a 4-day event for OOO LUKOIL Oil Company in New York City.

 

It is during this event that Svetlana realized her passion for interpreting from English to Russian and vice versa, and as a result continued to work on similar projects, translating from and into Russian language various of legal and business documents and assisting client translation requests in different government departments in the USA, such as: US Citizenship and Immigration Services, New York Department of Labor, Supreme court and local courts, etc.. In 2001, after graduating Summa Cum Laude from John Jay College of Criminal Justice, Svetlana registered SM World Enterprises and opened her first office in Brooklyn, New York. As a member of the USA National Notary Association, Svetlana personally specializes in the preparation of various types of documents for use by international government authorities. In 2003 she achieved a Masters of Law from Hofstra University in New York City, and in 2005 the second office was opened in Brooklyn, New York.

Since then SMWE has been developed into a dynamic organization, and translation of documents is one of its most important fields, considering a demand for language translations in the USA and abroad. Since 2005, SMWE has become a corporate member of the American Translators Association; and during its 10 years in business, SMWE has been transformed to a prestigious company that employs more than 50 native-speaking interpreters from all over the world, including the United States, Canada, Poland, France, India, Korea, and China, which allows to offer professional, low-cost translation services for more than 150 languages. Our services have contributed to the success of many prominent matters in the international business and legal arena.
